Square MCP connector

The Square connector brings payments, refunds, and orders into Elaichi, so once Square is connected your team can look up a charge, issue a refund, or build an order from Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, or the Elaichi Agent, each person signed in as themselves.

  • How it connects. Connects over OAuth. The credential goes into a vault nobody reads back.

  • One address. https://api.elaichi.ai/mcp, the same for every user.

  • Their own access. An agent never gets more than the person it acts for.

How to connect

How to connect Square to Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor

Two steps, about a minute.

1

In Elaichi

Connect Square once

  1. Open Connections, choose Add connection, and pick Square.

  2. Optionally set Share with to give a team access, then press Connect.

  3. Supply your own Square app, then approve. Square needs an OAuth app you register yourself, so bring its client ID and secret. One person does this once for the organization.

The credential is vaulted. Nobody reads it back, not even the AI.

Use cases

What teams do with Square through Elaichi

Every one of these runs inside the access the person already has, and lands in the same audit log.

  • Support

Find the charge a customer is asking about

A customer emails about a payment they do not recognize. Pull up the Square payment by amount, date, or card details and tell them exactly what it was for.

  • Support

Issue a refund without leaving the conversation

When a return is approved, create the Square refund against the original payment and note the reason, all in the same thread where you are helping the customer.

  • Finance

    Reconcile yesterday's payments and refunds

List every Square payment and refund for a date range, spot the ones that failed or were canceled, and get a clean picture before closing the books.

  • Operations

Build and price an order before it is paid

Create a Square order for a phone or catering request, calculate the total with taxes and discounts, and take the payment once the customer confirms.

  • Operations

Repeat a standing order in one step

Clone last week's Square order for a regular customer, adjust the quantities that changed, and send it through to payment.

  • Leadership

Tag orders with the details you track

Add custom fields to Square orders, such as event name or sales channel, so every order carries the context your reports need.

Try asking

  • “Show Square payments over 500 dollars from last week.”
  • “Which Square orders have open refunds right now?”
  • “Summarize Square refund totals by location this month.”

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I connect Square to Claude?

Connect Square in Elaichi first, then in Claude go to Customize, then Connectors, then Add, and paste https://api.elaichi.ai/mcp as the endpoint. Square requires an OAuth application registered inside Square, so one person on your team creates it in the Square developer dashboard and enters its client ID and secret in Elaichi once. After that, everyone else simply signs in with their own Square login when prompted and never sees those details.

Does Square work with ChatGPT and Cursor as well as Claude?

Yes. Once Square is connected in Elaichi, the same endpoint, https://api.elaichi.ai/mcp, works in Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, any MCP client, and the Elaichi Agent. You connect Square once and it is available everywhere your team already works.

What can an AI agent actually do with my Square data?

With Square connected, an agent can look up a payment, list the payments and refunds from a given day, create or cancel a payment, issue a refund, and build, price, clone, or pay a Square order. It can also manage the custom fields you attach to orders. Short, specific asks such as "refund payment ending 4421 from Tuesday" work better than long paragraphs.

Does connecting Square give the AI access to every location and every transaction?

No. Everything an agent does in Square runs under the Square permissions of the person who signed in, so it can only see the locations and transactions that person can already see. Elaichi can narrow that further, for example to read-only or to a subset of actions, but it can never grant more than the person already has in Square.

Can my team share one Square connection?

Yes. One person connects Square in Elaichi and shares the connection with a team, and nobody else needs to handle the client ID, secret, or any other credential. Each teammate still signs in as themselves, so the audit log records who issued a refund or changed an order, not just that the shared Square connection did.

Can I stop an agent from deleting or changing things in Square?

Yes. Restrictions in Elaichi work per action, so you can allow reading Square payments and orders while blocking refunds, cancellations, or edits. A blocked action is never shown to Claude, ChatGPT, or any other client at all, so no prompt, however worded, can reach it.

What happens to a Square connection when someone leaves?

When you offboard a person in Elaichi, their access to Square through every connected client ends immediately. If they connected a shared Square connection, it keeps working for everyone else on the team. If you ever want Square gone entirely, disconnecting it once in Elaichi removes it from Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and every other client at the same time.

Does the Square MCP connector work with Gemini, Codex, Claude Code or other MCP clients?

Yes. Square is reached over the same MCP endpoint every client uses, so anything that speaks MCP can call it — Gemini, Codex, Claude Code, Windsurf, Cline, Zed and OpenCode among them — alongside Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and the Elaichi Agent. The tools on offer and the access behind them are identical whichever client asks. Only the setup screen differs.

Is Elaichi an alternative to Zapier MCP for Square?

Yes. Both let Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor use Square. Zapier MCP fits a team that already automates in Zapier, since each person signs in and acts as themselves in that account. Elaichi fits when IT wants one address for the whole company, per-tool rules by role, and a record of every Square call.

How is Elaichi different from Composio for Square?

Composio gives AI agents tools and sign-in handling across 1,000+ apps, for developers building agents or people using an assistant, billed per tool call. Elaichi gives a company's own people governed access to Square: one address, restrictions per role or user, and $15 per user per month. Both have role permissions and a log of every call.
